Defibrillator Campaign Major Gift

NORTHERN HEALTH FOUNDATION RECEIVES $50,000 DONATION TOWARDS LIFE-SAVING FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

On Tuesday, 23 July, long-time Northern Health supporter, Alex Robertson, will hand over a $50,000 cheque to the Northern Health Foundation on behalf of Australian Hotels Association Victoria.

This generous donation will go towards a state-of-the-art upgrade of life-saving defibrillators across Northern Health’s services. The funds were proceeds from the AHA’s annual HotelCare Golf Day held at the Metropolitan Golf Club in December 2018.

Alex and his family have been supporting Northern Health since Northern Hospital first opened. Having grown up locally in Epping, not far from Northern Hospital, Alex has always been actively involved in community activities and is passionate about giving back. His association with Northern Health began when he was approached to sponsor the first Annual Dinner in 1999. This support has continued for over 20 years. Having formed the Corporate Fundraising Committee, Alex took on the role of Chair, a position he held for over ten years. This committee conducted four house and land projects, initiated the Annual Fun Run, established a venue donation tin scheme and many other successful ongoing fundraising projects. Through Alex’s enthusiasm for Northern Health and using his wide network of business connections, Alex encouraged many local businesses to sponsor events, support which continues today. Given his commitment to Northern Health, Alex was appointed as an inaugural member of the Northern Health Foundation Board.

Philanthropy runs in the Robertson family. In 2014, Alex’s son, Mark, pledged to fund scholarships for Northern Health medical students. The Robertson family’s support for Northern Health research continues to this day. Thanks to HotelCare, Mark and his wife Anne, Northern Health is fortunate to have the magnificent tapestry which is displayed in the foyer of Northern Hospital. The tapestry, designed and commissioned through the Australian Tapestry Workshop, depicts the history of the local region.

This seems most appropriate given the long history of the Robertson family with the local community. Alex shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to be an important contributor to Northern Health and committed to his philanthropic involvement.

Alex’s philosophy is simple – “if there is any way that you can give back – seize the opportunity – there is great joy in knowing you have helped someone else, even in a small way.”
