How We Make a Difference

Northern Health Foundation raises funds to provide Northern Health with state-of-the art medical equipment which will improve patient care and comfort across our health service here in the north. Over the last 18 months we have funded more than $800,000 in medical equipment and research across our four campuses. All focused on improving patient care and comfort now and into the future.

Following we share patient stories and the projects that have been funded over the last two years.

Northern Health Foundation Defibrillator Appeal

Northern Health Foundation together with our donors, business partners, local businesses and the community have helped raise over $300,000 to purchase defibrillators for Northern Health. Defibrillators save lives and it is important they are readily accessible across our health service.

Umit Kursat and his wife Tulay discovered first hand that a cardiac arrest can happen at any time, and without warning. Umit’s life was saved because there was a defibrillator on-hand.  Hear their story below:

In 2020, the Foundation continued to work to fund the areas of greatest need across the north with two key projects  high on the agenda.

Ultrasound Service or EBUS   –  $425,000

EBUS allows us to diagnose and stage suspected lung cancer – Previously, our patients in the north needed to be referred to other health services for these tests which caused significant delays in commencing treatment and care of our Respiratory patients.

After the funding of EBUS, our patients are able to be treated within Northern Hospital.
